CHILDERDITCH is a small parish of scattered houses, 3 miles S.S.E. of Brentwood, containing 239 souls, and 1575 acres of land, mostly belonging to Lord Petre, the lord of the manors of Childeiditch Hall and Tillingham Hall, the latter of which extends into South Weald parish. The Church (All Saints and St. Faith) ,is a small brick building, on an eminence, with a wooden belfry and shingled spire. The living is a discharged vicarage, valued in K.B., at £8, and in 1831 at £162. Lord Petre is patron, and owner of the great tithes, and the Rev. J. H. Lewis, M.A., is the incumbent, and has a good residence, 17A. of glebe, and about £170 a year in lieu, of small tithes. Here is a National School, built in 1844. POST via Brentwood.
